So why Social Studies? You may ask, why is learning about what happened hundreds of years ago relevant to today's time?? Well I have the answer for you! Learning about the past makes us more prepared to handle today's issues. Take the stock market crash of 1929 for instance. Many of those historians who had studied the causes of that economic disaster saw many similarities with the economy in 2009, so they knew it was bound to happen. If only we all knew about the crash of 1929! Luckily for our class, we will immerse ouselves in past conlficts as well as victories, so that we will better understand what is happening in the world in which we live. And our goal is to just not understand what is happening, but be able to critique current events as well as make predictions based on past incidents as historians would do.
